essential oils...

if you come to Carpinteria, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair...
when I came to Carpinteria sixteen years ago, I loved the rural beachtown aspect of the city..the foothill ranches, full of avocados and lemon trees, would fill the air with the scent of a prefumey woman in heat... it was as if nature herself was trying to seduce me..then there's Santa Claus Lane with its ag history of lima bean fields right next to the ocean...and still, we have flower growers plowing their land right next to the blue pacific...it's a simple uncrowded place and thank god ag has kept it that way...that's why I like greenhouses..they look like old army barracks, but instead of soldiers, they are full of flowers and pretty Mexican girls! Building on ag land would be disasterous for Carp and any attempt to pave the fields of flowers or stop greenhouse should be resisted...let this business flourish!
Now, onto another business that is part of Carp..oil and Venoco. Venoco is located on the Bluffs and owns a pier next to the seal sanctuary..I enjoy watching operations and the seals don't seem to mind the oil, the boats, the activity by the pier...so I say we look to the seals for guidance. Venonco wants to slant drill for oil in this very beautiful spot. Of course, this has created controversy pitting the anti-oil folks against the business folks...but we simply can't try to snuff out two important businesses in Carp, oil and flowers. The operators have shown they know what they are doing and we need oil, period. Now, if Greka Oil was proposing to slant drill here, I would be down at city hall everyday protesting. I'll never forget a few years ago when Greka was spilling almost daily, Mike Stoker, as their spokesman, was standing in front of the cameras trying to tell us that a "phantom saboteur" was responsible, instead of the real reason: incompetent managers and operators...he didn't want to embarass his north county buddies Brookes Firestone and cowboy Willie who leased the land to Greka!! That's the kind of bullshit we don't need in Carp..Venoco has been a responsible operator, and I feel they will continue to be. With the proper permits and safety protocols, they should be allowed to do what they do..drill for oil...as long as the seals don't mind...
