'24' To Get Eighth Season ! - 2/28/09

24 To Get Eighth Season

Kiefer Sutherland's 24 character Jack Bauer gets to live another day!

The hit show's executive producer Howard Gordon has told E! that there will be an eighth season of the series.

"We're gearing up for a May start date," he said. "I'm with the writers now just putting our heads together, coming up with an idea. Unless we fail to come up with an idea that's satisfactory, you'll see an eighth season."

However, the producer also hinted that the eight season could be Jack Bauer's last, despite rumours of a possible post series movie.

"We may decide ultimately if there's not a movie [story] worth telling, Jack may see his last day on television," he said. "He could die in the series. I think that's possible."

Comment: This is great news although not entirely unexpected. I guess this announcement by Howard Gordon makes it official. I however, DO NOT like the idea of killing off Jack AT ALL. I hope they don't go that route. I know Jack is a "tragic character", but after all the "bad days" he's had, he deserves a happy ending. I think a movie franchise with the Jack Bauer character like the 'Bourne Identity' series would be fantastic. Hopefully, some day we'll get to see that. In the meantime, we can enjoy at least one more season of '24' and Jack!

24 Scoop: Jack Will Find Time For New Romance - 2/27/09

The following scoop will take place between January 2010 and May 2010. All forthcoming spoilers will occur in real time.

Could it be that Jack Bauer is clock-blocked no more and will finally find time for a new romance?

24 executive producer Howard Gordon says that the increasingly intense moments between the disgraced CTU agent and his Season 7 sidekick, FBI agent Renee Walker, are leading to some good — if complicated — loving.

"They have established the emotional framework for a relationship that I think we're going to see manifested in the eighth season," Gordon tells TVGuide.com. "It's definitely part of our plan."

In the Fox thriller's latest hour, Renee slapped Jack — twice — before breaking down in his arms, distraught over the indirect role they played in an innocent woman's death. Of course, said tragedy came in the name of stopping the latest terrorist threat on U.S. soil.

Jack being Jack, whatever may come for him and Renee won't come easy. Says Gordon, "It's not a romance in the traditional sense of the word. It's a lot more broken and jagged than what you might imagine."

Since losing his wife to Original CTU Mole Nina at the climax of Season 1, Jack has only hooked up with Audrey Raines (played by Kim Raver) and trailer-park hottie Diane (the woefully underused Connie Britton). And where are they both these days? Gone.

As such, stepping into the role of Jack's next love interest had to be a daunting prospect for Annie Wersching. However, Gordon raves, the 24 newcomer "has really connected with the audience. I think she's done a spectacular job and we're extremely proud of her."

Good Article Praising Season 7 Of '24' - 2/27/09

Another Good Bad Day for 24 on Fox

I've overheard a few people at basketball games and parties declare that they became tired of all the craziness in the Fox thrill ride "24" last season and have stopped watching the series.

They're making a mistake.

I'm not saying that this year's horrific day in the life of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) hasn't had its usual share of preposterous moments. It certainly has had some ridiculous twists that have led to as much laughter as tension. I mean can't any President hire people he or she can trust won't become involved in a conspiracy against the United States?

But if you can suspend disbelief and go along for the ride, it's been a helluva year that has had an underlying message that scarily suggests there's a place for torture.

I must admit I was a bit concerned that the series would have a midseason problem after this year's lead terrorist, Dubaku (Hakeem Kae-Kazim), was captured on Monday. It looked like President Taylor (Cherry Jones) was going to be able to easily proceed with her attempt to save people in a small African country from the evil General Juma (Tony Todd), who is trying to overthrow his government and already committed genocide in a previous coup attempt.

But this Monday's two-hour episode is loaded with tense, suspenseful elements, thanks to the surprising arrival in the United States of General Juma and his army of evil-doers.

I hesitate giving you too many details beyond what was revealed in the preview after Monday's episode. To be honest, I think those previews reveal too much.

In any event, General Juma plots an assault on the White House that seems to be something out of a James Bond movie. Oh, and Jon Voight, who played an arms dealer and all-around bad guy in the November prequel set in Africa, also briefly returns.

It's all preposterously entertaining and ends with a can't-miss scene that will test Jack's resourcefulness -- as well as a viewer's ability to suspend disbelief.

Don't miss it.

What have you thought of this season's "24"? What do you think about the message about torture? And how do you think the season will end?

Children! Behave!

the Nanny Blog

good morning readers!
did you say your prayers last night? did anyone have sex last night, too..It better not have been dirty! did you brush your teeth this morning? did you make your bed..are you still living with mommy and daddy? did you do as I say and not as I do? NO? then you shall be SPANKED!! I shan't tolerate such behavior among you people!!

the Nanny State...
Wendy and co at the NewsPress complain that we're living in a nanny state simply because people expose the negative environmental impacts of plastic water bottles, not to mention the marketing fraud of expensive designer water...a nanny state! Can you believe that? This from a woman who won't let her employees read internet blogs, who is pro-censorship, who wants to punish everyone all the time, who thinks that city hall is a day care center, who hired Dr. Laura ..the same Dr. Laura who is anti-choice, anti-single women, anti-free speech and wants to regulate bedroom activities of adults, who's got her nose in EVERYBODY'S business..and on and on...these two NINNIES are the biggest NANNIES in California!!

Your Money or Your Life

I've pointed out all the mistakes the News-Press makes when they publish a paper...wrong story headlines, wrong information, wrong this ampersand wrong that..sometimes they print a correction the next day or whenever they figure out where they messed up..
well, this latest mistake was a doozy..and goes to show you what the priorities are at the New$Pre$$... look at the size of this 1/2 page correction for a bank vs the teeny one-sentence-without an-apology correction for writing the wrong headline for a local fallen soldier!

ampersand one last thing...CHANGE YOUR UNDERWEAR!!

24 Quote Of The Day

"This is probably the last time we'll ever speak. Jack, you do understand when you hang up, for all intents & purposes Jack Bauer is dead."

-David Palmer

Season 4

6:00 am - 7:00 am

hey baby, I'm your handyman..

getting the upper hand...

The News-Press loves to use the word "handmaiden" to try to denigrate people on the enemies list...well, I have to admit I didn't know what a handmaiden was, except perhaps, as a last resort sex partner..a little lipstick, a little baby oil..a picture of Dr. Laura....but that really does not apply here.
so what is a handmaiden? it's a moth; it's a pretty flower; it is a woman servant; a maid that waits at hand..it's a job..a working class job..no wonder Wendy uses it to pee on the peon working class!
but really.. what guy wouldn't want a female to serve him... Wendy treated her reporters as peons until they got uppity and rebelled..I can tell you this, if I owned the NewsPress at the time, you girls would have been my willing handservants and not complained at all!
In Ancient Egypt, the role of handmaiden was important to Egyptian religious practices. One of the early gods, Atum, was supposed to have brought the world into being through self-fornication. In subsequent ritual, a priestess would assist the priest in the ceremony, through the use of a carving representing Atum's penis. These female priests were important within the ritual for they assisted in the creation of the world.
so you see, being a handmaiden is a good thing. This is all in reference to the Santa Barbara mayoral race...first of all, Santa Barbara should do what Carpinteria does, rotate mayors..that way, you give the press a moving target..and it's good for the community... but since that's not going to happen in SB, the race will focus on Helene and Iya. That fat dude, Cushman, from the Chamber of Commerce might run, but I doubt it...the guy can barely move and looks a week away from a heart attack! Iya is way too close to the News-Press, they give her free publicity all the time, Salud supports her, but he works for Wendy's paper "El Mexicano" as a contributor..so these politicians are getting sprinkled with her gold dust...they are not handmaidens, but Wendy's apple polishers..
So who do you want for mayor of Santa Barbara? a politician, a handmaiden, or an apple polisher?
I'd go with the handmaiden..hands down..

Exciting Season 7 DVD News

Usually, '24' fans have to wait until December to get the DVD package after the season finale, but this year according to TVShowsOnDVD.com, Season 7 will be released the day after the season finale on May 19, 2009! It will be released both on standard DVD and Blu-Ray.

This is great news. I always hated to wait until December to get '24' on DVD.

Wendy McCaw: I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE INTERNET

unplanned obsolescence....

Wendy posed a dumb-as-usual question...what would happen if all the daily newspapers shut down their websites for a day or a week? Well, nothing Wendy..it's not gonna happen so you can try to prove a lame point..what would happen if I went out and shot a whale? see? kinda the same lameness....
then she concludes that all the bloggers would have to "steal the news" from somewhere else..and she uses this argument to justify charging for both the newspaper and internet access to the NewsPress..double dipping. She says she's a genuis because she charged for the online subscription while other newspapers were offering free access.. she cites a story she stole from the Poytner Institute, instead of doing her own research..which she criticizes bloggers for doing...Wendy..you have NO CREDIBILITY!!
says Wendy:
"Most of my adult life I’ve been involved with advanced forms of communications technology like wireless-telephone and satellite systems," she said. ( i.e., she divorced a cell phone billionaire and got a huge settlement) "I’m looking forward to working with the News-Press management team in further improving this newspaper, as well as finding ways to apply technology to this important form of communication." that was in 2000! The News-Press, which had a daily circulation of 45,300 copies, was the oldest newspaper in southern California. It published its first issue in 1855. In 1999 revenues of the News-Press totaled approximately $30 million. It was acquired by The New York Times Company in 1985. If the revenues were 30 million in 1999, she probably paid around 130 million for the paper in 2000..I bet it is worth about 2 million now..good job, babe!
Wendy..you're a dumbass and that's why your business is failing, that's why you shut down Goleta Valley Voice and that's why advertising revenues are down..'cos you're a dumbass! Your paper takes stories from the Associated Press and reprints them..so what...on line papers/blogs provide links all the time, thus increasing traffic to the other site..it's a symbiotic relationship..if you are going to charge money to access your site, you need to offer more than the paper offers..you bought into an industry that had obsolete written all over it...NewsPapers don't have the clout or power they used to..
check out CNN, Huffington Post, Drudge or Ventura County Star to see how online is done right..check out newspress.com to see a bad attempt at an online news business..remember, that's the one you own!
Dr. Laura used to steal stories all the time and repackage them with her own twisted psychotic ramblings..didn't you notice? SHE USED TO BE ON PAGE 2, but quit in an Operation Family Fund scandal..
Now, you can bitch and moan all you want but the internet isn't going away...free speech will not go away...these are concepts you can't buy, and that frustrates you...you can't control it and, being a control freak, this scares you....my site, SANTABARBARANEWSPRESSBLOG.COM like I said in an earlier post, is always for sale..100 large if you're interested...until then, quit your babbling and go with the flow...you can't put a price on everything...esp if it is worthless...

Speaking of Worthless..congrats to Nipper for earning the "Pointless Competition of the Week" award from Rachel Maddow's Show..it got a "really weak" rating.

How refreshing!

2 Guys Talking '24' Podcast

Many die-hard '24' fans probably already know about this podcast, but in case you don't I'd like to recommend checking it out. It's very entertaining and well-done although the hosts (Mike Wilkerson & Tony Lovasco) can be a little nitpicky at times. Putting that aside, I really enjoy listening every week. The highlights of the podcast are the funny episode recaps called "24 in 60" and "Jack's On-Screen Tsunami Scream."

Here's the link to the '2 Guys' website where you can download current podcasts and past season podcasts.

Green Onions...

laissez-faire...

Since Nipper is away at a Water Tasting Symposium, I thought I'd have some fun with his website..seems a young lady named Huyen has a problem..she is seeking advice from the Nipperite foodies..actually, her boyfriend has a problem..diverticulitis, which simply means he farts too much and blames it on onions and garlic! Face it Huyen..you make him nervous, his tummy is all in knots... he's not man enough for you..if you want my advice..dump him and come to Mick..I like onions and I could go for a little Asian action, if you know what I mean....
why not buy him a handy new soap gift from Nippers.com store..cheer him up a little!!
the issues:
says Huyen:
Hi guys,
Quick question for you: My boyfriend, 26, was diagnosed with diverticulitis this past summer which effects the GI tract system..and has since become allergic to the onions/garlic family!! This is very tragic for the both of us, since that is pratically my staple base for ALL of my dishes, most curries/soups/stews/stir fry, etc.. I've heard "hing", an Indian herb is potent and a nice subsitute..but do you have any other reccomendations or ideas? Herbs, veggies..anything..Your thoughts are very much appreciated :)
Huyen
says: SBbulldog
Huyen, take it easy, baby. Your young man is, I'm sure, a vital, otherwise healthy, guy and this may just be an early warning sign. I'm sure that you've read up on all the details. It looks to me that first, you stabilize through dietary changes, then adapt to a sustainable plan.
Take it one step at a time and don't assume that you both have to eat the same things all the time. Get your man well, and see where you need to go.
Water, liquids, fiber, all the right stuff and then deal with the specifics.
Good luck, you are a sweetheart to be thinking about taking care of him.
Ms. B is allergic to shellfish. I love it, but I don't need it. I get it when I want and sometimes she even prepares it for me. Adapt and thrive.
de gustibus non est disputandum
says ccuisine Bon Vivant:
What about using ginger, or fennel? Celery? Elephant garlic is alot less potent- would that matter or it is ABSOLUTELY no onions garlic?
Good luck with that...
says simplyhuyen :
I know I can always count on you two! We know uncooked onions most definitely, and skeptical about the garlic, but will probably test that theory in a few weeks by incorporating small cooked portions bits at a time. Right now, he's pretty weary so we want to take it easy.
Elephant garlic, can that be found at our local farmer's market? I will ask around tomorrow..and excited to see where this leads with new found herbs, spices and discover alternative ways to creating dishes, and playing w/the combo of flavors. I do use fresh lemon grass, ginger, tamarind, dill, fennel on a regular basis..it will just be strange without the 5 cloves of garlic and the onion parade to get it all started..but it's not so uncommon, and I'm definitely open to adapting and learning to become more health consciously educated.
Onward and forward!
Huyen

Wet n Wild...

Nipper's a water master, an international water expert.. Travis is a journalist, Dr. Laura is a psychologist and I'm an economics professor at Stanford University..impressive, ain't we?
ok Nipper, here's a little basic water quiz: how many lbs per gallon of water? what does MPN mean? what is a clarifier? name some steps in water treatment...how much does a cubic ft. of water weigh? why is water called the universal solvent? Do women's breasts shrink when in the water?

annual water tasting & pissing contest
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Water from around the world was tasted by 10 judges Saturday at the 18th annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting at The Country Inn.
The media panel judged municipal, bottled noncarbonated, sparkling and purified drinking water in the afternoon and evening.
Jill Klein Rone, producer of the event, said there were 118 entries in this year's event, which was slightly more than last year. She said about 200 people attended the event.
The judges were trained by water master Arthur von Wiesenberger, an international water expert from Santa Barbara, Calif. (!!)
"You don't want negative tastes that make you gag," von Wiesenberger said. A good water should have a nice sweetness, be fresh and thirst quenching, and have a balanced feel with the correct minerals, he said.
"Bottled water has been the whipping boy for the recycling environmental movement, but represents one-third of 1 percent of the packaging stream," he said.

ohboy..a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing...
says Nipper: "A good water should have a nice sweetness, be fresh and thirst quenching, and have a balanced feel with the correct minerals," he said. Ahh.. Nipper, water has no taste..if it is sweet, then someone put sugar in your glass ie, made a solution! A balanced feel for a glass of water?? WTF are you talking about.. are you crazy?? you sure got a lot of gall, to be so useless and all...

Bottled water means garbage

Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year. According to Food and Water Watch, that plastic requires up to 47 million gallons of oil per year to produce. And while the plastic used to bottle beverages is of high quality and in demand by recyclers, over 80 percent of plastic bottles are simply thrown away.
That assumes empty bottles actually make it to a garbage can. Plastic waste is now at such a volume that vast eddies of current-bound plastic trash now spin endlessly in the world’s major oceans. This represents a great risk to marine life, killing birds and fish which mistake our garbage for food. (does Wendy know you kill marine life, Nipper??)
Thanks to its slow decay rate, the vast majority of all plastics ever produced still exist-somewhere.
Bottled water means less attention to public systems
Many people drink bottled water because they don’t like the taste of their local tap water, or because they question its safety.
This is like running around with a slow leak in your tire, topping it off every few days rather than taking it to be patched. Only the very affluent can afford to switch their water consumption to bottled sources. Once distanced from public systems, these consumers have little incentive to support bond issues and other methods of upgrading municipal water treatment.
The bottled water business in the United States is booming. People increasingly are willing to pay for something they can just as easily have for free. Yet many people around the world have no dependable, safe drinking water. Charles Fishman of Fast Company magazine talks about his article "Message in a Bottle" with Robert Siegel. In the article, Fishman calls a plastic bottle of water in a store's cooler "the perfect symbol of this moment in American commerce and culture. It acknowledges our demand for instant gratification, our vanity, our token concern for health. Its packaging and transport depend entirely on cheap fossil fuel."
Olson adds, "Unlike tap water violations, which are directly enforceable, if a company exceeds bottled water standards, it is not necessarily a violation—they can just say so on the label, and may be insulated from enforcement." Further, while EPA rules specify that no confirmed E. coli or fecal coliform (bacteria that indicate possible contamination by fecal matter) contamination is allowed in tap water, the FDA merely set a minimum level for E. coli and fecal coliform presence in bottled water. Tap water from a surface source must be tested for cryptosporidium, giardia and viruses, unlike bottled water, and must also be disinfected, unlike bottled water. Hoober also notes that food products such as "carbonated water," "soda water" and "seltzer water"—in addition to most flavored waters—are held to even looser standards than "true" bottled water.

Episode 9 Overview & Thoughts

4:00 pm – 4:12 pm

Episode opens right after Henry Taylor was shot at the end of the last episode. Renee shows the EMT’s where he is. Jack is working on him until the EMT’s take over. Jack asks Renee if she’s ok. He wants her to check the computer hard drives to see if they can find out where Dubaku went. Jack then makes a call to the President to update her on Henry’s condition.

Jack says Henry’s sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and has lost a lot of blood. Jack tells Bill Dubaku was gone when they got there and that he thinks he will try to leave the country now.

President Taylor wants to go to the hospital. Ethan is worried about guaranteeing her safety outside of the White House since the SS has been compromised. The President insists she is going to the hospital and will not be held prisoner there while her husband is fighting for his life. She demands she be taken there or she will drive herself. Bill interjects that he will take responsibility for her security. Ethan explains his credentials were cancelled when CTU was dissolved.

Bill asks the President to re-establish his government clearance so he can vet White House staff and allow him to bring in someone to assist Larry at the FBI to run tactical. Of course he’s talking about Chloe. Ethan states that her credentials are were cancelled as well when CTU was decommissioned. He asks if there’s anyone else who can do the job – HA! Of course there’s not – this is Chloe we’re talking about here. Come on Ethan, get with the program!

Bill states that because the FBI has been compromised, Larry can’t afford to use anyone within the FBI to try and track Dubaku. The President agrees to Bill’s suggestions and grants him the authority under her office to do what he needs. The President vows to do whatever it takes to find Dubaku. She wants the SOB found! Go Madame President!

We next go to Dubaku outside of where Marika works. He gets her attention and she comes outside. Dubaku says he needs to leave the country because he his visa expired and immigration has caught up with him. He wants her to come with him to Belize. She’s reluctant because it’s too soon and she is the only one who can take care of her sister Rosa. He says they have to leave now, but her sister can join them later (yeah, right). Dubaku talks the stupid girl into leaving with him. She is told to go home and pack and wait for his call. She leaves. Dubaku makes a call to an unknown man who apparently has made his travel arrangements. Dubaku states the mission is over, he’s done all he can do. He wants to meet this guy in the lobby of the Roosevelt Continental Hotel to get his travel paperwork. The man thinks it’s too public of a meeting place, but he agrees.

Back to Jack and Renee. They can’t find anything on the computers so they start searching the bodies. Renee gets a phone call from Larry. She updates him on what happened there and Henry’s condition. Larry asks if she’s ok. She says she’s fine. Larry’s not so sure about that. Renee asks what that is supposed to mean. Larry tells her about the report about the incident regarding Vossler’s wife and child.

She said they did what they needed to do; that was the only leverage they had against Vossler. Larry sarcastically says, “whatever it takes” – Jack Bauer’s rationalization for everything. He says she’s following his playbook. She says no one was actually hurt. Larry flips out and reminds her that Jack killed the woman’s husband (Vossler). As they are talking Renee looks in a mirror where she notices she has blood on her hands and face.
Larry is scared of what is happening to her. He thinks what she did does not bother her. Renee said she didn’t say it doesn’t bother her, she said that it worked. Of course it bothers her she says, she can see the woman’s face. (nice split screen showing Jack looking over at her. I couldn’t tell if Jack could really hear what she was saying or if he was just noticing the expression on her face.)

Renee said the woman had no idea her husband was a killer and a traitor to his country but she looked at her like she was the monster. Jack then interrupts the conversation. Jack says he came across some bank transactions on the PDA’s registered to the same address. They think it may be a safe house. They give Larry the address and they are heading out. Renee wants Larry to provide satellite surveillance. Jack asks Renee AGAIN if she’s ok. Once again she says she’s fine. She sure gets asked if she’s ok a lot. That’s the 3rd time in the first 12 minutes.

4:16 pm – 4:26 pm

Now we are at Marika and Rosa’s apartment. Rosa is asleep when Marika comes in. She starts to pack her things. Quick jump to Chloe riding in a car – Morris is driving! Morris is back.! I like Morris. I hope we get to see more of him. He’s taking Chloe to the FBI. Their son Prescott is in the back seat. Prescott? – OK. She says goodbye to her son and Morris. A little trivia – the kid is actually the son of 24 writer/producer Howard Gordon.

Larry is giving Janice instructions on what he wants her to do. Janice just thinks he’s giving her busy work to do. Larry wants a VPN socket setup. He says he’s bringing in a consultant from Homeland Security to make sure the firewall is secure. This is the cover for why Chloe is being brought in.

Larry brings Chloe into a conference room to show her where the computers are setup for her to help Jack and Renee track Dubaku. Chloe looks uncomfortable. Larry notices and asks her what is wrong. Chloe’s feeling exposed and thinks they should be doing this more covertly since they believe someone in the FBI is working for Dubaku. Larry tells her about the Homeland Security cover story and that their network does not support remote access modules. Chloe says that’s inefficient and whoever setup up their network that way didn’t know what they were doing. Larry says he setup their network that way. Classic Chloe response: “Oh… OK”.

Next is my favorite part: Larry remembers Chloe worked with Jack in the past. Chloe says she has worked with him on and off for seven years. Larry says that’s impressive because she survived the experience. Larry points out many others haven’t like Curtis Manning, Ryan Chappelle and even his own wife. Chloe retorts by asking Larry if he thinks it’s Jack’s fault his wife was killed. Larry says, “You tell me.”

“Jack Bauer is the most trustworthy, honorable man I know and he’s my friend.” – Yeah Chloe! Thank you for defending Jack. It’s about time someone did. Then she tells Larry he should worry more about finding the mole in his office working for Dubaku than about Jack. You tell him girl!!

Erica tells Janice she recognizes Chloe and that she thought it was odd that she would be there from Homeland since that did not seem like her area of expertise. Janice is looking worried.

The scene goes to Dubaku meeting unknown man at the hotel. Mr. Burnett tells Dubaku of the flight arrangements. Dubaku requests a driver to pick up Marika. Burnett says he’s not sure if he can make arrangements on such short notice. Dubaku says he could ask his man at the bar, on the balcony, etc. Burnett says the men are there to “guarantee his safety.” Dubaku doesn’t believe that and says if anything happens to him while he’s trying to leave the country, he will send the names and bank transactions of those working with him to the Justice Dept. Burnett says that is unnecessary. Dubaku also says nothing better happen to Marika either. She knows nothing of this and is no threat to them. Burnett tells Dubaku he understands.

After Dubaku leaves, Unknown makes a call to another unknown person. I really wish they would give you their names upfront. Anyway, Unknown says Dubaku knew they were going to take him out so they better make sure Dubaku leaves to country so they won’t be found out.

Back to Marika and her sister. They argue about Marika leaving to go away with Dubaku. Marika says she’s going and demands Rosa get out of her way. As soon as she goes into the living room, Jack and Renee bust through the door. Renee demands to know where Dubaku is - they say they don’t know. Jack then shows Marika a picture on his cell phone of Dubaku but she says she doesn’t recognize him. Jack says she’s lying. “Why are you lying to me?!” Why do I like it so much when Jack yells? I guess it’s because Kiefer does it so well. Rosa asks to see it and she recognizes him. She tells Jack he told them his name was Samuel Aboa and that Marika was going to meet him. Jack wants to know where but Marika says she doesn’t know.

Jack: “Do you work for him?!”

Jack: “Do you know what he’s doing in this country?”
Jack: “Do you have any idea…WHAT this man is?” (love the way Kiefer delivers this line. It’s a simple line, but powerfully delivered)

Marika: “He’s everything to me.”

Jack looks away realizing it’s a romantic relationship; she doesn’t work for him.

4:30 pm – 4:39 pm

The President arrives at the hospital. The doctor says Henry’s looking at a minimum of 5 hours of surgery. He says his chances aren’t good but he’ll do everything he can. The President sees Henry briefly as he’s being brought to surgery. She tells him she should have believed him about Roger; that he didn’t commit suicide. Henry says he was a hero. President Taylor asks Bill to find someone to contact her daughter Olivia. She says they haven’t spoken in some time so she knows she wouldn’t come to the phone if she called. She asks if there is someone trustworthy he can send. Bill says there is.

Renee is showing Marika pictures about all the horrible things Dubaku has done in his country. Jack says he’s seen first hand what Dubaku’s capable of. He was responsible for killing a friend of his. Jack wants Marika to answer the phone when he calls. Marika doesn’t want to but Jack says the man she knew doesn’t exist. All that’s left are his lies and betrayal. Just then the phone rings. Jack begs Marika to answer the phone.

She does. Dubaku thinks she sounds strange. She covers by saying she and Rosa were arguing about him. Dubaku says a car has been sent for her. He wants her to go downstairs to wait for it. Renee wants them to grab the driver and make him tell them where Dubaku is. Jack doesn’t think they can get him to talk in the time that they have and Dubaku won’t stay around if they wait too long. Jack wants Marika to meet with him and track her using her cell phone. Renee doesn’t like the idea. Jack gently asks Marika to go with the driver and they will follow her. Marika agrees but Rosa doesn’t want her to. Marika says it’s her decision to make and it’s the right thing to do. Jack takes her phone to get her SID number so they can track her.

Rosa still protests Marika’s decision but she believes Dubaku wouldn’t hurt her. Marika tells Rosa she should have listened to her. Rosa said she said those things because she was jealous and didn’t want to lose her.

Meanwhile, Jack calls Larry. He finds out Chloe is running operational support. Jack seems relieved to be working with Chloe. Jack gives her the SID number to setup the tracking. Janis is trying to track what Chloe is up to but she’s locked out.

4:43 pm – 4:50 pm

Olivia Taylor is shown talking to a potential client. More trivia: that potential client Olivia is talking to is David Fury, the writer of this episode. He’s been known to make cameo appearances in shows that he writes.

They are interrupted by… Aaron Pierce! He’s come to escort Olivia to the hospital. Yeah – Aaron’s back. I’ve missed him too. Aaron explains that her father has been shot and is in surgery. Not public knowledge. She looks upset and then goes with Aaron.

Janice goes to Sean to ask for the “digital data key” for the server. She says Larry asked for it but she tells Sean the real reason she wants it. She thinks Chloe’s been brought in to replace her and she wants to know what’s really going on. Sean still doesn’t want to give it to her but she blackmails him by saying she’ll disclose his affair with Erica. Sean reluctantly gets the data key for her. “You’re a little bi*** you know that?”, “You’re a little bi***.” I don’t believe Janice and Sean like each other very much.

Marika is now ready to leave to meet Dubaku’s car. Rosa tells Renee to keep Marika safe. Renee says she will. Marika tells Jack she’s scared. Jack says she’s going to be fine and to remember they are right behind her. Renee starts to tell Marika to dial a certain number if she gets into trouble. Jack says he doesn’t want her to do that. He doesn’t want the driver to become suspicious.

Marika goes to wait at the door. Jack and Renee remain back from her in the hallway. Jack wants to know why Renee tried to give her the number to call.

Renee tells Jack Marika was scared and she wanted her to know there was another option other than waiting for them to swoop in. Jack says there are no other options when trying to catch Dubaku. He says she’s run other operations like this. Renee points out not with out backup. She doesn’t like that Marika is “naked out there.” Jack says this isn’t about her this is about Dubaku. Jack lectures her that life gets ugly and sometimes innocent people get hurt. They have one job and that is to get Dubaku. At least Marika has a choice to do the right thing unlike his other victims. (Jack in this scene kind of reminded me of the old Dragnet show when the Jack Webb character Joe Friday would lecture someone. I don’t know why that reminded me of Joe Friday but it did.)

The car arrives. Marika gets in. After the car leaves, Jack and Renee head out. Chloe is tracking the car. Janice goes to the server room and uses the data key – Access Granted.

4:54 pm – 5:00 pm

Marika asks the driver how much further but he doesn’t answer. In the server room using the data key, Janice overhears Larry, Chloe and Jack during the operation. Someone comes in and Janice quickly disables the data key and leaves the server room. When she does that she causes Chloe’s link tracking the car to disappear. She tells Jack the tracking grid is lost. It comes back up and Chloe runs a diagnostic to find the cause of the glitch. Chloe finds out someone was in the system mirroring her terminal and knows what they are doing. Larry looks around the office.

All of a sudden police cars come in from all sides. Jack tries to evade but can’t. They are ordered out of the car by DC Metro Police. Jack and Renee are arrested. That came out of nowhere. Larry calls Metro and says no warrants have been issued for them. Chloe says yes they have and pulls up on the screen a warrant for their arrest using “decisive force.” She says it is a real warrant from someone in the office.

Janice gives Sean back the data key. She tells Sean about the covert operation Larry is running with Jack Bauer to track Dubaku. Sean asks why they are being kept in the dark about it. Janice doesn’t know but she doesn’t like it. Janice leaves and Sean makes a phone call to Burnett! He’s the mole in the FBI!!!

Burnett explains why they could not take out Dubaku and that Sean should pray Dubaku gets away.

Dubaku gets a call again from Burnett. He tells Dubaku Marika has been turned by the FBI and she agrees to lead them to you using her cell phone. Dubaku says he’ll take care of Marika.

….clock ticks to 5:00 pm.

Another good episode. In fact I enjoyed it even more the 2nd time I saw it. The storyline moved along well and the pacing was good. The fact that we find out Sean is the mole really didn’t surprise me. They went with the person you expected rather than someone totally unexpected. Although, I did briefly begin to believe it was Janice. Some pretty good mis-direction there.

I also liked the police coming out of nowhere to arrest Jack and Renee. That was an interesting unexpected twist caused by the FBI mole.

I also loved the scene where Chloe defends Jack to Larry. Defense of Jack is so infrequent, it is a real treat when that happens. Jack hasn’t always made the best decisions, but he’s saved many lives over the years and the appreciation for the good things he’s done gets overlooked way too often. Way to go Chloe!

Of course it was great to see two past characters return in Morris and Aaron. Especially Aaron Pierce. He’s always been one of my favorite characters ‘24’. The actor that plays him (Glenn Morshower) does such a wonderful job, you really believe he’s a Secret Service agent.

Based on the previews for next week, it looks like another great episode. I know some people avoid previews so I won’t give too much away, but there is a very intense-looking scene between Jack and Renee I’m really looking forward to.

…anxiously awaiting Monday night.

More Monkey Business..

I'll be a monkey's uncle!
When I read about Travis the Chimp's relationship with his human lady friend, I freaked out..it seems they were awful close..had dinner together in the woman's house, shared glasses of wine, even slept together...that's right, slept..in the same bed. Maybe she knows Jane Goodall, the other chimp lady...
Now, lots of people sleep with their pets..dogs in bed..if it's a cold night you might need three dogs, thus a 3 Dog Night... and cats..I had cats jump onto my bed and then onto my head or chest, thinking I was their pillow..they would stay there, staring into my eyes like little psychos and start purring...every now and then, when they got too weird, I'd give them a little kick, and off they went into their cat world outside...or somewhere in the house where nobody could find them...
Now, getting back to Travis and the woman... who treated him like a boyfriend..ah.. she might be on to something...I've known women who looked like apes, acted like monkeys, and smelled like baboons..but I never would think to actually date a real lady chimpanzee...I think it is because I've been programmed to mate only within my own species..but why limit myself?? Love is universal..I could go to the Santa Barbara Zoo, bring a few bananas, check out the primates exhibit, see if there's any takers, and have a little fun with a redheaded female monkey or two...it would be like reliving the bar scene in Santa Barbara in the 1980s!
I wonder, can monkeys cook??

5 Questions With Annie Wersching - 2/20/09

Could it be? After six seasons of death and heartbreak, could '24' hero Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) finally find love in season 7 in the form of ... Girl Jack? That would be FBI Agent Renee Walker (Annie Wersching), a smart, fierce, talented operative who's proving to be quite Jack-worthy in the tracking of President-blackmailing terrorists.

St. Louis native Wersching, who starred on 'General Hospital' and has had guest gigs on shows like 'Supernatural,' 'Frasier,' 'Angel' and 'Boston Legal,' landed the high-profile role after working with '24' producer Joel Surnow and director Jon Cassar on the pilot for 'Company Man,' a spy drama that failed to make the Fox lineup in 2007.

Wersching talked to AOL TV about how she's enjoying kicking major baddie butt on '24,' whether Jack and Girl Jack might find time for a little romance while saving the world and about co-star Sutherland's driving skills.

The five questions are in the rest of the article:

A Blast From The Past...Original '24' Season One Promo

Here is one of the original promos that ran on FOX for the premiere of season one of '24'. I didn't find '24' until season 4 so I thought it was fun to see this promo.

Enjoy this blast from the past about Jack Bauer's first really bad day...

24 - Scenemakers

There is a very cool weekly feature on the main '24' webisite called 'Scenemakers'. There is a new one posted each week that features some behind-the-scenes stuff about one of the episodes.

The current one features the Director of Episode 9, Glenn Morshower (Agent Pierce) and the writer of the episode (David Fury) who also makes a cameo appearance in episode 9.

For '24' fans interested in the behind-the-scenes goings on, it a very interesting feature to check out each week.

Here's the direct link to '24' Scenemakers site:

Lick My Decals Off, Baby...

what is this world coming to? Some Muslim guy cut his wife's head off for divorcing him....why didn't Craig McCaw think of that!!

a chimp named Travis, high on psychotropic drugs, attacks a woman and rips her face and hands off! He was later killed..
However, when Travis was not high, he was a pretty nice monkey, so it seems..here he is seen mellowing out with his girlfriend...his very sick girlfriend...Travis the ape has a nephew, Travis Armstrong, who "edits" for the Santa Barbara News-Press..we tried to contact SB Travis about his uncle's odd behavior and ultimate demise, but he wouldn't return our calls..
Republican Abel Maldonado holds up the budget process so he can have open elections..the Democrats said:
ok Abel, whatever!
SO.. he gets open elections...but it was the Republicans who told Independents in the last election they couldn't vote in the Republican primary!
Cherie Rey over at the Daily Sound..geez WTF is wrong with that paper?? Randy Alcorn, Gina Perry and now Cherie Rey..Cherie writes a column complaining about the poor service she got from the city of Santa Barbara while she was trying to figure out stimulus details..."I made the mistake of calling the City Administrator’s office during lunchtime; my initial call was answered by voicemail, the second, a half-hour later, by a representative in the Mayor’s office. Thinking I’d hit pay-dirt, I launched into my line of inquiry to gain insight into how the stimulus projects were selected and prioritized; the issue of how many jobs might be created by them; and how local citizens might be able to learn more in order to vote responsibly on the national website about proposed projects.
The representative in the Mayor’s office archly asserted she knew nothing about this stimulus issue or local projects under consideration, and that I was the only person who had inquired about it. She offered that since it’s not a City website, StimulusWatch is not an "endorsed" website; I should just contact each City department head on my own to find out information about job creation; and any questions had to be put in writing and would be forwarded to the proper authority."
The city gets a number of callers who are certifiably insane..they call all the time, ask the same questions, talk about flying saucers, complain about every little thing under the sun, and then blame it all on the city government...maybe Cherie's on the list...the problem with many of these folks is they need their hands held..they think authorities have the answers to all their concerns..well, they don't, I'm sure...the city of Santa Barbara is not a restaurant where you can go in, place an order, get a sandwich or send the soup back if it's too cold!!
If you call any city with a question, do some research... make sure you go to the right person, make sure the questions aren't general and vague..and before you call, send an email and usually you'll get an answer quick..at least in Carp that's true...customer service is front and center here..plus, we don't have as many crazy people...
Now, if I get my chef's knife out and cut off Cherie, Gina, Randy and Wendy's heads, would they even notice??

Dear Diary...

...Dr. Laura is an anal-retentive douche bag....

A Connecticut state lawmaker is proposing legislation that would bar schools from punishing students for their electronic insults -i.e. free speech
Dr. Laura..nobody messes with free speech...FREE SPEECH!!! a basic American Right...you need to learn the difference between insulting and defaming...for example, an insult would be: Dr. Laura, you are a douche bag's douche bag!
a defaming statement would be: Dr. Laura has sex with dogs!

STORY
says Laura: This idiocy is in response to the punishment meted out to Avery Doninger, a 17 year old high-schooler who was disciplined in 2007 for writing a blog from home using vulgar language to defame and insult school administrators. STOP: so she called her teacher a douchebag, so what.. what Avery does at home is none of the school's concern.. if she insults school administrators, they probably deserve it...they abuse their power all the time in the name of education..
The girl’s mother "wished her daughter ‘had used more sophisticated language.’" Instead of standing by the school punishment to teach her daughter the consequences of not thinking behavior through in advance of indelible actions, she’s making it a cause for free speech and filed a lawsuit.GOOD! The kid is just blowing off steam..we all did that! That is not defamation. You should understand that, Dr. Laura, and so should the school. She is learning to be independent....a leader, someone who thinks for herself, and won't let a bunch of anal adults try to punish her for being a kid and an American..a free speech loving American..instead of a total drama slut like Dr. Laura.. stop punishing and start educating!! "Abstinence Only" doesn't work!!
GO AVERY!

New Episode 10 Preview (5:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

FOX Broadcasting / YouTube

I'm a man....

I spell M...A...N...

did you ever love a woman so much, you wanted to be her..wanted to sneak inside her body and feel what it's like? Me neither...but I've heard as you get older things shrink and shrivel to the point of absurdity..I'm not there yet...I can do anything that a girl requires of me although I drool a bit more than I used to..but I'm a little worried..I've heard some guys' penises shrink so much they double as pussies or Volvos..I mean vulvas! Imagine that..I guess that explains why some politicians ( I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Arnold made Maria strap on a dildo while Rob Lowe watched!) and News-Press management types act like they do. In fact, I can explain Nipper and Wendy's relationship using a converse of my little dick theory: Wendy is the guy in the relationship...her little man in a boat got so big, it has become a big dude in a yacht! Unnerstand? (Oh.. and Wendy... the new guy on PAGE 2..BORING!!!!)
This phenom is also relevant to the last eight years of the Bush (!) administration...Bush's dick was starting to double as a pussy!! That's why he led us down the road and dropped us off in a ditch..what a little bitch he was!! Another pussy was in California recently..simpleminded neo-con Bill O'Reilly, who blames California's financial problems on illegal aliens who, by the way, have helped turned our agriculture into a multi-billion dollar industry.....what about the 46 other states in financial messes..oh, he doesn't like to mention those...why? because he's a pussy!
Arnold, who furloughed me Monday and Tuesday, is another example. He could have signed a California budget a month ago, but didn't..why? because he's a pussy, too! I'm not disparaging any part of a woman's anatomy here, I'm just making a point using some totally inappropriate street slang...
OK then...the charade continues...

'Lost' & '24': Simple Titles, Complex, Brilliant Shows - 2/17/09

Article from USA Today about both 'Lost' and '24':

Excerpt:

"Wildly different shows and wildly different paths, but they have arrived at the same place. For the moment, at least, they're the two best shows on TV.

Because it fell further from grace, the course corrections at 24 are probably more noticeable. In place of the hysterics and overdone family histrionics of the last go-round, we have a stripped-down plot that frees Jack (the reliably terrific Kiefer Sutherland) from back-story build-up and returns the show to its roots. Jack's not trying to save the world this time, just the president — and thanks to the writers and the fabulous Cherry Jones, he once again has a president worth saving. Even Monday's revelation of Sean as the FBI mole could be read as tweaking our built-in 24 expectations; he was so obvious, you figured he had to be a red herring."

Interesting Tidbit About Episode 8...

The 2-minute recap tonight revisited Jack's season-making line of last week, "With all due respect, ...ask around." Cherry Jones, who plays Madame President herself, Allison Taylor, was on the local Fox 5 Morning News last week and mentioned the line was originally scripted as something like, "With all due respect, Madame President, my loyalties...yada yada American yada...," but Kiefer Sutherland came up with the "ask around" part on the spot, which brought a spontaneous cheer from the crew once "Cut" was yelled. She called it a "Kiefer keeper."

This whole season so far has been a Kiefer keeper, and if they can keep it up, I say screw the big-screen movie. Go for season 9, 10, and more.

Sad News... Long-Time Director/Producer Leaving '24'

I read some sad news on the official '24' fourm that Jon Cassar, long-time Director/Producer on '24' has left the show to pursue other projects. Production Designer Joseph Hodges has also left. Jon posted a message on the '24' forum and it is as follows:

"There have been many posts asking about the fan phone. I'm not sure what is going to happen with it because I am not involved with the show anymore. I've officially signed on to do a new pilot for CBS called Washington Field about the DC branch of the FBI. I will not be involved in the production of season 8 on 24.

I've always enjoyed your comments, and I will continue to read your thoughts on season 7. Nothing makes me happier then knowing you are enjoying, what I think is a great complete season. (I know this because we are doing the sound and music mix on eps 23 & 24 in the next two weeks).

The show has been my life for the last 6 years, and I've worked with the best cast and crew in the business. I'm proud to call them my friends. I've left the show in the capable hands of Brad Turner and Milan Cheylov, the producer directors that will continue to fight to make 24 one of the best shows on TV.

And even though I'm exited about starting new projects and delving into the feature film world, I am sad to close a chapter in my life that undoubtedly was the best of my carrer.

Thank You All for Watching"

This is sad news for '24' fans. All the Directors on '24' are great, but Jon was always my favorite. Thanks for all the great work you have produced on '24' and good luck to you and Joseph with your future endeavors.

Episode 8 Overview & Thoughts

3:00 pm – 3:17 pm

Episode opens with Henry Taylor being brought to Dubaku’s hideout (Korean grocer). We next see Dubaku walking the streets and sees President Taylor on TV giving an address to the nation saying we will not give in to the terrorists and that Juma will be overthrown and Prime Minister Mutobo will be the leader of Sangala.

Dubaku gets to the hideout. The music as he is going to the grocers is outstanding by Sean Callery.

Dubaku tells Vossler his money will be wired to the usual account. Vossler has to leave because his shift begins at 4 pm.

Dubaku talks to Henry Taylor. We get confirmation that Dubaku is behind Roger Taylor’s death. “Does your wife love you enough to call of the invasion of my country?” Dubaku asks.

Back to President Taylor still addressing the nation. Nice split-screen showing Prime Minister Mutobo, Jack, Bill & Renee arriving at the White House.

Ethan explains to the President who is going to be meeting with her in the Oval Office. She is willing to hear what they have to say because the Prime Minister asked her to. She warmly greets the Prime Minister.

The President tells him she has ordered the military to proceed in Sangala. The Prime Minister is grateful but tells her he has to leave to meet with his people about post-invasion plans.

The President demands an explanation about what is going on. Jack proceeds to inform the President that key members of the government are working with General Juma and Dubaku to undermine this nation’s foreign policy and her foreign policy regarding Sangala.

Bill explains about Tony’s undercover operation, etc.The President asks if she chooses to believe them, where would they go from here? Jack explains that Dubaku is the one who knows the names of those within the government who have betrayed her. He says it is imperative that he be found but they would have to work under the radar because they don’t know who can be trusted.

The President then gets a call from Dubaku about her husband. Dubaku tells her he has her husband and she speaks with him briefly to show prove that he is being held hostage. Dubaku demands that the President withdraw her forces around his country and the Prime Minister be delivered to a power plant by 4 pm. If this is not done, he says her husband will die. “You wouldn’t dare!” says the President. Dubaku then orders one of Henry’s fingers be cut off – Ouch! Dubaku again says if his demands aren’t met, her husband will be killed immediately.

Ethan comes in after the call ends to inform her that Agent Gedge and Samantha Roth’s bodies were found at her apartment along with the drug Gedge used on Henry Taylor. He says this confirms the conspiracy they were just told about.

The President is clearly upset but says “How can she ask the American people to make sacrifices I’m not willing to make myself.” “I can’t give in. I can’t.”

Jack says they can still try and find her husband before the 4 pm deadline. The President is reluctant because of what Dubaku said and she says she can’t trust anyone in the government.

Jack replies, “You can trust me.” – the first of many great lines of dialogue in this episode.

“How am I supposed to know where your loyalties really lie?” – President Taylor
“With all do respect Madame President…ask around.” – Jack Bauer

More great dialogue! I love it! Kiefer Sutherland can deliver most simple line of dialogue more effectively than almost any other actor I have ever seen.

Jack needs the President to go along with Dubaku’s demands to buy them some time so they can try and find her husband.

Ethan shows Jack and Renee to a room they can use to work out of. Jack asks for the security details for Henry Taylor and he tells Renee they need to check Agent Gedge’s phone records. Renee says phone records for SS agents are highly-classified especially those assigned to the first family. Jack says they need to get them from someone who already has clearance. Renee suggests Larry Moss. Jack’s skeptical but she says she thinks she can persuade him to do what they want. “We know each other pretty well.” (wink, wink)

Renee calls Larry. Larry is shocked to hear from her of course. She explains she and Jack needs his help. She said Jack was with them all along and everything he did was to preserve his cover. She says the Bureau is compromised and what they are doing has to remain completely off-book. She explains about Henry Taylor’s kidnapping and how the President has asked her and Jack to find him by 4 pm or he’ll be killed. She asks him to get Agent Gedge’s phone records.

Larry wants to see her to make sure she’s not “under duress.” Renee says there is no time for that. Larry says if she wants his help, they’ll have to meet at the Capitol Reflecting Pool. She tells Jack that she thinks he’ll help but they need to go.

3:21 pm – 3:30 pm

Back at the FBI: Sean is whining that they are being kept out of the loop. Blonde chick is asking when she can see him again. Sean says he hasn’t seen the wife in over a week. Sean has to get back to work. Guess the blonde chick is out of luck. Janice comes over says he should be less obvious that he’s carry on with the blonde chick. Might as well hold up a sign - Ha. Sean says it’s stupid and wrong and he’ll stop. Janice says he should before Larry finds out.

Jack and Renee arrive at the reflecting pool to meet with Larry. I love this scene and the location. The location adds so much to the scene.

You can see how relieved Larry is that Renee’s alive. If Jack wasn’t there I think he would have hugged her. Of course Jack is clueless about the obvious connection between these two as he walks up to them. Jack gets right down to business and immediately asks if Larry got access Agent Gedge’s phone records.

Larry mentions Gedge talking with Agent Vossler and Larry also checked out Vossler’s personnel records. He was in Special Forces and also spent some time in Sangala. Larry shows Renee Vossler’s files. Jack asks if Vossler has a family. Renee says he is married and has an 11-month old son. Jack wants to have Larry help him track Vossler and he wants Renee to go to Vossler’s home.

Larry wants to know why. Jack says since Vossler has been in Special Forces he’ll be hard to break so threatening his family will be his only vulnerability.

“When are you people gonna stop thinking everyone else is following your rules? There’re not!” another great line from Jack.

“Pick One!” – I love the way Kiefer says that line.

When Larry says he won’t allow Renee to end up like him, I thought Jack was going to punch him again but all he said was “Are you going to give me the keys or not?” Then Larry just throws them at him.

This scene ends with another great line: Larry says, “The rules are what make us better.” Jack replies, “Not today.” Fantastic writing.

Back to Dubaku’s hideout: Dubaku gets a call from the girlfriend. She’s come home to help her sister. She wanted to see if he’s still coming to dinner but he says he can’t – busy at “work”. Being a thug and a terrorist is a 24-hour job you know. The girlfriend and her sister have an argument about “Samuel”. The sister is trying to warn her about him, but she won’t listen. After the girlfriend leaves, her sister looks at a letter.

Now at the White House: Bill suggests they use a Mutobo look-alike to take to the power plant. The President gives her authorization to move forward.

Now showing Jack in Larry’s vehicle. Jack gets a call from Larry. He tells Jack were Vossler is. They are tracking him.

Renee arrives at Vossler’s home. The wife opens the door, Renee shows her gun, comes and says if she does what she’s told there is a chance she’ll live through this.

3:35 pm – 3:40 pm

First scene is of the baby crying. Vossler’s wife tries to go to the baby but Renee pulls her gun on her and won’t let her near the baby. She tells her to sit. Renee handcuffs the wife to the table. (Renee is channeling her inner-Jack again).

Jack and Larry are still tracking Vossler. Jack has to go down a one-way street (no problem for Jack). There he goes through one-way traffic, he sees Vossler’s car and hits him. “Let me see your hands – NOW”. I never get tired of Kiefer/Jack shouting that at people.

Jack takes Vossler in the entryway of an apartment or hotel. I can’t tell exactly where they are. Vossler of course won’t tell Jack where Henry Taylor is. Jack then calls Renee. Renee puts the phone on speaker. Carol, Vossler’s wife explains there is a woman there with a gun. Vossler still won’t talk. Jack then tells Renee to “begin.”

Renee goes over to the baby and makes it look like she’s doing something to him. Vossler gives in and tells Jack he will tell him. Jack hangs up. Renee picks up the baby and gives him to her mother. She calls Renee a monster.
What an intense scene that was. What was brilliant about it was that you couldn’t see what Renee was doing or not doing to the child. I knew she really wasn’t harming the child but because you couldn’t see it, it made it all the more intense. Great work by the Director and editors.

Vossler still hesitates, Jack starts to call Renee again, but Vossler finally tells where they are holding Henry Taylor. A passerby comes into where they are, but as Jack turns his head to tell the person to get out, Vossler knocks the gun out of his hand. Vossler then pulls a knife and a fight ensues.

Nice throw-down by Jack. Jack manages to stab Vossler in the stomach with the knife. Jack grabs his gun and leaves. There are people around his vehicle but Jack shouts for them to get away. Jack sees he can no longer use the car so he does what Jack always does when he needs a car - he car jacks someone! Jack has done this so many times over the years he’s become quite good at it. “GET OUT OF THE CAR NOW – MOVE!” Vintage Jack.

3:45 pm – 3:50 pm

Now at the White House, Bill and another agent are with the Mutobo look-alike explaining the protocol for when the arrive at the power plant. At first I wondered where they could find a guy to pose as Mutobo so quickly, but I figured it was maybe another SS agent. I thought they couldn’t trust anyone in the government but it seem like a lot of people are still in the loop. Oh well, sometimes you have to overlook plot holes at times.

Jack is calling Renee to give her the address of where Henry Taylor is being held. He tells Renee if she gets there first to stand down until he gets there. He also tells her Vossler is dead, he attacked him and he didn’t have a choice.

He asks Renee if she’s ok. She looks at the mother and child and says she doesn’t think she is. Jack says after what she did today he wouldn’t blame her if it was too much and wanted to get out.

“Maybe I will… tomorrow.” – another great line and very well done by Annie Wershing.

Meanwhile back at the White House, Bill tells the President that they have a location on where her husband is.

The blonde chick at FBI gives Sean a memo from Homeland Security that they are considering lowering the threat level. “Something’s going on behind our back” - waaaaa! Stop whining and shut-up Sean! Man, he gets on my nerves. Good Larry’s getting a phone call. It’s Renee. She tells him she’s on her way to where Henry’s being held. She also asks him to keep an incident quiet until what she and Jack are doing is finished.

She tells Larry Jack killed Vossler in self-defense. Larry’s upset and not sure Jack was telling the truth. He asks what she’s doing with Bauer. “We’re supposed to bring suspects in not murder them.” Larry tells Renee.

Dubaku is being told a vehicle is arriving at the power plant they think contains the Prime Minister. Dubaku gets a call from the girlfriend’s sister Rosa. She has the letter we saw earlier. She tells him she knows Samuel is not his real name and that she has a friend at Immigration that found out he is in this country illegally. She tells him to break it off with her sister and she’ll keep the information she found out between them. The call ends. Dubaku says he has to take care of a problem. Looks like he’s off to take care of the sister. Watch out Rosa!

3:54 pm – 4:00 pm

Renee arrives at the grocers where Henry Taylor is being held. She waits for Jack. Bill calls Jack to find out Jack’s status. They have the vehicle on satellite at the White House. They are told to bring the Prime Minister to them. Dubaku is told by phone that no one is getting out of the vehicle. Dubaku says they are being played and orders the vehicle destroyed. The President orders the car to leave and Bill tells them to get out, but it’s too late, one of Dubaku’s men sends in a shoulder-fired missile and the car is destroyed. I like how this was done, you don’t see the actual car being blown up, but you see it from the White House on satellite. I thought that was a different way do that but it was still effective.

Jack arrives to meet Renee. Jack orders the grocery owner at gun point to move and he takes him to the basement. He whispers in his ear that he wants him to open the door and ask them if they want something to eat. Jack knocks him out and he goes into see how many are there using his always handy mirror. Jack then uses hand signals to Renee telling her what he wants her to do. The second part of his hand signals looked to me like he was doing hand puppets or something. I found that kind of funny.

Dubaku calls one of his associates and tells him to kill Henry Taylor. Then the shooting begins! Some nice shooting by Renee. As the bad guy goes to kill Taylor, we see the Jack slide again! You have to look close but as he slides into a wall, he shoots the guy, but before he goes down he shoots Henry Taylor! Uh Oh!

Jack goes in and notices Taylor’s been shot. Renee comes in and Jack shouts: “GET AN AMBULANCE!!”

…the clock ticks to 4:00 pm

Wow! I’m exhausted after that episode. That is the ‘24’ thrill-ride I remember. This has to be the best episode of this season so far. The pacing was great, the writing, everything was outstanding in my opinion.

I should have known this was going to be a great episode when I saw Bob Cochran was one of the writers. Any episode he’s involved in writing is always special. Evan Katz was also one of the writers of this episode and he’s a great writer as well.

Poor Henry Taylor. Talk about having a bad day. I hope he makes it, I’d hate to see the President lose both a son and a husband.

Episode 8 was the last one filmed before the writer’s strike so the rest of the season was filmed several months later where they had more time to go back and do re-writes and re-shoots. It’s a great season already so I can’t wait to see what the remaining episodes will be like.

Is it Monday yet??
