as if I needed to tell you that the NewsPress doesn't have any credibility.. but I like to point it out from time to time ..the proposed building at Coast Village and Olive Mill roads has the NP in such a tizzy they have fallen into an editorial loop...every few days they write the same thing and always remind you they "won" a legal victory against the city..they busted folks on a commission for talking about projects at lunch, supposedly violating the open meeting law..next time invite Travis to lunch! Shows you how stupid the Brown Act is...this is one act that needs a rewrite...
The News-Press MO is the same: demonize the builder and city to try to stop the process. They tried that with the Miramar and failed because they lied alot!
But to think they want to save a gas station in Montecito instead of allowing the property owner to build is nutty..especailly if you look at the surrounding area..the Montecito Inn, the huge mansions from Ty Warner and friends on Channel Drive, the neo architecture of the Trattoria..I mean, the cat is out of the bag... the glory days of Coast Village Road are long gone..the Olive Mill Bistro where Hank and Wayne jazzed it up and John Carradine used to hang out, is now a yuppie bar..the vibe is dead...
...so one more big structure isn't going to hurt anybody...and the stated goal of preserving Montecito's semi-rural character is BS..what is semi rural anyway? It's either rural or it's not....
While on route to Montecito, I almost ran over some of those folks on recumbent bikes..I told these guys I'd be trying to outlaw this type of bike on the road, and they started chasing me up the hill toward Ty Warner's unfinished orange monstrosity...it was like the Night of the Living Dead!!
and I saw restaurant rich guy Gene Montesanto going around in circles in front of Lucky's and Montecito Inn..in a very expensive sports car and wearing a silly ponytail...
skip a rope....
