24: Jack Bauer Will Survive to the End of the Series
Kiefer Sutherland
As Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) begins his eighth really bad day on 24, speculation is high on whether this will be the show's last hurrah. Season 8, which premieres on Sunday, has not finished filming, leaving room for changes geared toward making a series finale of 24, should that be the intention.
"We haven't written it," said executive producer Howard Gordon. "But the way I look at it is that every single season, in my opinion, could've been a series-ender. I want to tell this year's story and end it properly. Honestly, as long as Jack's not dead, anything is possible."
Sutherland shared a similar sentiment, adding that his focus right now is solely on Season 8. "This has been one of the greatest gifts of my life, the ability to do 24," he said. "For me, yeah, it's something that absolutely is open. I've always said that as long as people want us to make it... I would be interested."
So will Jack die at the end of 24? Gordon says no. "I have always flirted with the idea that seeing Jack's last hours would be very dramatic," he said. "But it's not something the audience, or frankly I, would be able to tolerate. I'm not saying it's a happy ending, but I think Jack lives. How he lives is the real question."
And what about that 24 movie we keep hearing about? "We have had sporadic conversations about a movie and yes, the answer is that it's absolutely on the table," Gordon says. "It depends on Fox's appetite."
The eighth season of 24 begins on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 9/8c on Fox.
Are you glad Jack Bauer will survive the series — whenever it ends? And are you hungry to see a 24 movie?
