Lisa Thomas, Kiefer and Me |
Lisa, Jason Patric & Me |
Part I:
The night of April 13, 2011 is a night I'll never forget. I FINALLY got to meet Kiefer Sutherland. My friend Lisa Thomas and I went to the 8 pm performance. We had fantastic seats, front row center of the mezzanine. The view of the stage was perfect because it wasn't too far away and you could see the stage and actors very well.
The play itself was fantastic. All the actors were great especially Kiefer. James, his character in the play is SO different from any other character I've seen him play before. Kind of nerdy and nervous. You felt bad for him because he plays a guy who never was able to fulfill his dreams due to all his responsibilities in life. Kiefer played it perfectly. Even the body language of the character was spot on. VERY different from Jack Bauer for sure.
He is truly such a gifted actor. It was very interesting to see him play a character like that and to see him act live in person. That was very special in and of itself.
When it came time to meet him I was really nervous but once I started talking to him I didn't really feel that nervous. He shook my hand and after that I told him I came from KY to see him in the play and he said "Oh thank you, thank you very much." He's very sweet and soft spoken. Kiefer also told us how much he appreciated us coming to the play and was glad we liked it.
I also mentioned to him that Lisa and I became met and became good friends because of him and 24 though my blog and I also mentioned the websites we do for him and he said he appreciated us doing that for him. We are trying to work on getting an interview for our website down the road!
Not too long after that he said he had to go outside, meaning he had to go outside with the other actors and sign autographs and take pix with the fans but he was nice enough to ask us to wait and he would be back.
While waiting for him to come back we chatted with Chris Noth for awhile. He was very nice as well and asked us where our seats were and when we told him he said he thought those were the best seats in the house. We told him he did a great job tonight but he didn't think he did. He was really a pretty cool guy.
Kiefer did come back as promised and Lisa and I got our pic taken with him. He asked me how long I would be in NY and I told him I was leaving on Friday, and he said, "Oh well I hope to see you again before you leave" OMG!! That was really nice of him to say that. As he was going out the door I wanted to let him know how great I thought he was in the play and I said, "You were really great in the play tonight!" As he was opening a door to leave, he waved in response and said, "Oh thank you sweetheart." That's pretty awesome to be called "sweetheart" by Kiefer Sutherland!
Before we left the theater, we ran into Jason Patric and chatted with him as well and got a photo with him. He was really nice also. We also saw the former baseball manager, Joe Torre who attended the play that night.
It was a night I'll always remember. I never thought I'd get to meet him and it was the thrill of a lifetime. He is a true gentleman and a very down to Earth person. Photos don't do him justice either, he really is more handsome in person than in photos or on film. A truly gorgeous man inside and out.
Part II:
On Thursday the day before I had to leave for home, Lisa had the idea to get our photo with him printed out in an 8x10, go and see if we can get him to sign them after the Thursday night performance. We also got a cute thank you card to give him and we wrote a simple note just thanking him for taking the time to meet us Wed. night.
We waited outside after the play was over and he did remember us and was happy to see us there again. He loved the photos and signed each of our copies for us and he asked me again when I was leaving and I said tomorrow (Fri) and he said, "Thanks for coming and have fun the rest of the night". As he was leaving to go back in the theater I handed him the card and said it was just something to say thank you for Wed. and he bowed his head a little, looked at me and said "Oh thank you sweetheart". So I got called "sweetheart" twice by Kiefer!! THUD
I was so glad I got to see him and chat with him the night before I had to head back home. I had a great time in NY and NYC. It was great too to spend a week with my friend Lisa. We had a great time, she is my best friend in the world.
