hey there little Red Riding Hood..

You sure are looking good...
You're everything a big bad wolf could want....

Wendy loves non-profits!!...the News-Press had an animal editorial about Defenders of Wildlife, a nonprofit charity that Wendy gives tons of money to..and she wants you to too..too!

well, no Wendy...I will not give money to anyone who wants to return native plants and animals to their natural habitat because that means nothing...plants and animals will compete in habitats, they will thrive or die off, they will be dispersed by Nature..and the cycle repeats..the nitrogen cycle, the carbon cycle, the water cycle and the bicycle...poisoning landscapes to get rid of non-native species has unintended consequences like bees disappearing..when will they ever learn...WEEDS HAVE A NECESSARY PLACE IN NATURE!! no reason to fear or hate them!

it's all in the handbook..read it...here's an excerpt: Some of the Defenders of Wildlife’s literature suggests the nature of their motives and direction. They follow the lead of other environmental groups in lacing their writings, such as their Fact Sheets, with the required new age buzzwords, most of which are inappropriate concoctions. The term biological diversity, or biodiversity, is liberally used. What they fail to appreciate is that the variety of living species that naturally occur on a given site is a by-product of basic physiographic features. The potential remains, under the dictates of Mother Nature, regardless what they, or others, might do. And protectionists neglect the obvious; that, if the potential is to be maximized, habitats must be carefully manicured in such a way to guarantee a niche for each species
Of course, there must be frequent mention of ecosystems and their protection. What is usually ignored is the fact that there are infinite numbers of ecosystems, with infinite sizes and shapes, and they are constantly changing; again under the dictates of Nature. Gap analysis is another new creation; one that has the taint of the popular core/buffer/corridor syndrome and the goal of locking up vast acreages of land. The same applies to the term landscape linkage. Incidentally, in discussing the gray wolf they state that this species may occupy home ranges of several hundred square miles. This ploy seems to be commonly used by environmentalists to justify the lock up of land. Abnormally high home ranges should alert the biologist to the possibility of the habitat being decidedly marginal or that the species really does not belong.

now, some folks who join the Defenders of Wildlife have some complaints, among them is the huge salary of the CEO..almost $500000/ year!

Very disappointed in this charity
Posted by Judah December 24, 2009 5:23:57 AM I am so very turned off by all the repetitive mailings that I have received from this charity. The more I give, the more they deluge me with mail and offers of gifts. Even when I have written on the donation form to NOT send me a gift, they have sent it, so I guess they don't read what the donor wishes. It is especially the gifts and the salary of the CEO that turn me off. I will not give to this charity any longer.

CEO compensation and gifts
Posted by Sally Rose October 20, 2009 10:55:06 AM I don't like being bombarded with all the "gifts" and request for money. It is hard to understand a CEO of a charitable organization receiving such a high salary. When you think of how many people have to contribute to make up that salary it is amazing. For example it would take 10,000 contributions of $25 or 5,000 donations of $50.

never again!
Posted by amr58 July 24, 2009 8:07:05 AM I sent this org a donation in response to an Alaskan wolf slaughter email. After that, I was DELUGED with glossy snail mail stuff that I'm certain cost more than my donation did, and my emails tripled. I will NEVER donate to DoW again, especially after seeing the breakdown of expenses.

it seem the Defenders spend more time on PR stuff than actually helping save wolves...Wendy uses alot of paper unnecessarily and so does DoW!!

Little Red Riding Hood
I don't think little big girls should
Go walking in these spooky old woods alone.
Owoooooooo!

and I'm afraid I'll have to agree with SARAH PALIN on this one..yep...Sarah, who says: In a statement posted on her website, Palin calls the group's actions "reprehensible and hypocritical" and accuses them of using the controversy as "a fundraising tool to deceive Americans into parting with their hard-earned money." The statement reads further:
"The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska's wildlife management programs. Alaskans depend on wildlife for food and cultural practices which can't be sustained when predators are allowed to decimate moose and caribou populations. Our predator control programs are scientific and successful at protecting vulnerable wildlife. These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska, and I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska's positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.

so Wendy is full of it as usual and Sarah has a rare moment of clarity....while I don't want Sarah to be president, I think she knows more about Alaska than Wendy....Owoooooooo!!
