the future of Santa Barbara..in two city minutes!
I was pondering all things round last night when suddenly there came a tapping, as of some one gently rapping, rapping at my condo door. "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my condo door Only this, and nothing more."
well it turned out to be my washer dryer belt was about to come off the pulley and it was making a knocking sound..so I took off the back cover and re-aligned it so now it works again..see, centrifugal force is very powerful and if the belt inches out, even a little bit, it throws everything off...after 6 or 8 months of use, the belts stretch so I gotta order some new ones...
anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, the future of Santa Barbara according to some News-Press readers will be very high tech...one guy who lost his house to a fire wants thousands of wireless sensors in the hills and mountains that send signals to the fire dept when smoke is noticed..kinda like smoke detectors for the hills..then he wants a superscooper airplane ready and waiting to pour tons of water on the next fire...a fire driven by hot Santa Ana winds is not going to wait..it will burn everything burnable..the thing to do is limit development in the hills and equip everyone with a fire suit...and this fellow might talk to CALTRANS who is putting in an elaborate irrigation system from Padaro to Santa Claus lane..maybe they can do the same thing for the hills above SB!!
then we got the guest editorial guy Terry Tyler who must be afraid of his own shadow because he's always crying about how unsafe he feels when walking in Santa Barbara. Well, he wants a bunch of high tech gadgets around town like electric fences to shock the homeless and illegals and cameras to monitor you in case you commit a crime..that way your image will be captured and the cops can arrest you later....although it won't prevent crimes...crimes...crime...ahh crime...Man has climbed Mount Everest, gone to the bottom of the ocean. He's fired rockets at the Moon, split the atom, achieved miracles in every field of human endeavor.....
except crime!!!
