The past few years of 24 have been complete successes, as Jack Bauer has battle everything from Russians to corrupt politicians.
The hit show took a yearlong break in 2008 due to the Writers Guild of America strike, the show came back with another intense season full of action and political intrigue.
This eighth season, however, differs widely from past years. The show so far continues to entertain as certain changes in the show have been both good and bad.
The new setting this year, set in New York City, definitely offers a much more realist feel, since it was really hard to believe that major terrorist attacks centered around Los Angeles happened six times in a row.
Another change has been the addition of a romantic storyline between Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, and Renee Walker, played by Annie Wersching (who is a St. Louis native). This has not gone over well with me, as watching a man who has tortured who knows how many try and have a relationship with someone is just odd.
One aspect that I have really liked is that much more international intrigue has been involved, as the story revolves around the negotiations taking place at the United Nations between the United States and a fictional Islamic Republic to end its nuclear program (this is meant to represent Iran). This makes things also makes the show much more entertaining as it complicates the story line to be more than the overdone us vs. them story lines of past seasons.
This season will no doubt continue the success of the show, maybe even brining back some of the viewers like myself who have grown bored with the redundant stories of some recent seasons.
